By virtue of its win at Indy Eleven on Saturday and its regular-season performance, Louisville City FC will host Sunday's USL Championship Final at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium on the University of Louisville campus.
Real Monarchs SLC earned its first Western Conference title with a 2-1 win against No. 6 seed El Paso Locomotive FC, thanks to a goal in the final minute of extra time from defender Erik Holt.
"I don’t think there are any words to describe how we’re feeling right now, in the locker room and after the game," Real Monarchs Interim Head Coach Jamison Olave said. "Everyone is happy for what we’ve achieved and what we had in front of us to play for.”
Meanwhile, LouCity returned to the USL Championship Final for the third year in a row. The Boys in Purple trailed Indy Eleven 1-0 heading into stoppage time, but found its way back to the final after a late equalizer from forward Antoine Hoppenot pushed its contest into extra time. Then in extra time, LouCity midfielder Magnus Rasmussen and forward Luke Spencer both scored to secure a 3-1 win.
"We have been tested so many times that it is normal for us now," LouCity coach John Hackworth said. "It doesn't make it any easier, but we should never discount what these guys have done and what they are doing."
Tickets for the USL Championship Final will be offered in pre-sale to LouCity Season Ticket Members starting Monday. Any remaining tickets will be offered to the public on Thursday at 10 a.m.
