Magnus Rasmussen earned this week’s Dr. Mark Lynn and Associates, Visionworks Man of the Match honors after scoring an equalizer on the road against Ottawa Fury FC.
Magnus' goal came in the 67' as Speedy Williams passed the ball up the middle and deflected off an Ottawa defender. The ball landed right in front of Magnus' feet, and he put the ball in the back of the net to help LouCity secure a point for the table.
"I just saw the opportunity," said Magnus on his equalizing effort. "The ball went through and I chased it and finished it."
Magnus' goal was his seventh on the season and his first goal since scoring against Loudoun United on June 9.
Although the team came away with a point, the players were still frustrated about not being able to come out with a win.
"Every time we go on the field we’re playing for three points, and every time we don’t get it we feel disappointed," said Magnus.
Magnus also understands the importance of learning how to play to win from the opening kickoff. LouCity has given up the opening goal of the game for the past five league matches. Only one of those matches ended with a LouCity victory.
"The reaction (from being down a goal) is good, we just need to have that from the beginning," said Magnus. "We don’t want to go down one goal and then see the reaction."
Up next Louisville City FC comes back home to face Bethlehem Steel FC. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, at Slugger Field.
