Louisville City FC Inks Midfielder Magnus Rasmussen

Danish Playmaker Returns to Derby City; Fortifies Midfield on 18-Man LouCity Roster

LOUISVILLE (January 4, 2018) – After announcing the return of 16 of 20 players from the 2017 USL Cup team, Louisville City FC continues their offseason activity with the addition of Danish midfielder Magnus Rasmussen, pending receipt of his ITC and visa. Per club policy, terms of the contract will not be released.

A name LouCity fans are already familiar with, Rasmussen returns to Louisville after spending last season with Danish third-tier side BK Frem in his home country. From August to October 2017, Rasmussen earned seven appearances and totaled nearly 300 minutes. The midfielder had previously spent both the 2015 and 2016 seasons with LouCity, racking up over 40 appearances and scoring over 10 goals while tallying a handful of assists in the process. In the club’s first-ever match in 2015 – a home contest against Saint Louis FC in front of over 6,000 fans at Slugger Field – Rasmussen scored the first goal in club history in a 2-0 win, one of eight he would score that year in total.

“It means very much to me to come back to the team and to the city,” said Rasmussen. “Last time I was here I had two amazing years. I’m really excited and I’m just looking forward to getting started in front of the best fans in the league.”

A native of Copenhagen, Rasmussen began his youth career with Danish second-division side BK Sollerod-Vedbaek in 2007 before jumping to Danish Superliga club FC Nordsjaelland between 2008-2012. However, the Danish playmaker would return to BSV in 2012 where he would sign his first professional contract and play until the 2015 season.

Speaking to LouCity.com, Head Coach James O’Connor expressed his delight at bringing the player back into the fold once more.

“We are delighted to welcome Magnus back to LCFC; he is someone we think has a lot of potential and talent,” said O’Connor. “He had a very productive year for us in our first season and we are excited by the prospect of having him back for 2018.”

Rasmussen will sport No.6 for LouCity.

Preseason for the “Boys in Purple” will commence on February 5 with Rasmussen expected to arrive later in the month of January. Following the club’s 2017 USL Cup-winning campaign, season ticket packages for the 2018 season are currently available; for details, visit www.LouCityFC.com.

About Louisville City FC
Since its launch in 2014, Louisville City FC has been committed to serving the community of Louisville as the city’s professional soccer team.  The 2017 season marked the third year of play for LouCity in the United Soccer League (USL), a professional soccer league based in the United States and Canada. On October 26, the Louisville Metro Council voted overwhelmingly in favor of a new soccer-specific stadium in the Butchertown neighborhood with a projected opening slated for March 2020.

After finishing in the top five in average attendance in the USL at Slugger Field since 2015, LouCity’s remarkable 2017 campaign included winning the 2017 USL Cup in the club’s first appearance in the final.
